Institute of Physics

6 July 2005

On 5th July 2005, the Institute of Physics announced a unique new partnership which will see it publish its first journal from Scandinavian Europe.

From January 2006, Institute of Physics Publishing and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences will join forces in publishing the journal Physica Scripta, a leading international journal for experimental and theoretical physics.

Physica Scripta will be published on behalf of the Academies of Sciences and the Physical Societies of the Nordic countries. Until now the journal was published in-house. This move will enable them to promote the journal to new markets through Institute of Physics Publishing’s global network.

Jerry Cowhig, Managing Director of Institute of Physics Publishing said: “We are extremely pleased to welcome the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences as a new partner. We’re looking forward to building a unique new partnership with the Academy and the Nordic physical societies and hope that this represents the first-step in a long-term relationship between Institute of Physics Publishing and the Nordic countries.”

Launched in 1970, Physica Scripta encompasses strong components of Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics, Plasma Physics, Condensed Matter Physics and Mathematical Physics. It is a monthly publication with an active programme of topical issues. A special feature of the journal is its “comments” section that highlights current topics in different areas of physics.

Roger Wäppling, Editor-in-Chief of Physica Scripta said: “Institute of Physics Publishing is a leader in the efficient dissemination of scientific information and we are looking forward to a fruitful collaboration between the Institute and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in the highly competitive area of journal publishing.”

Through close collaboration with the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, Institute of Physics Publishing will utilise its publishing expertise and global network of communication channels to build on the established reputation of Physica Scripta. In addition, access to Physica Scripta will benefit from the publisher’s outstanding Electronic Journals platform which includes a wide range of special features.

All submissions and the peer review process will continue to be managed by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, whilst publication, distribution, subscription fulfilment and sales and marketing, of the journal in print and electronic form will be carried out by Institute of Physics Publishing.
