The Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) published today (Thursday, 13 March) the Innovation Nation White Paper to help the UK prosper in a globalised economy.

Following on from Lord Sainsbury’s review of science and innovation in the UK, ‘Race to The Top’, the White Paper covers a range of topics from supporting business innovation, to guaranteeing the strength of the UK research base, to ensuring innovation within the UK’s public services.

John Brindley, Director of Business from the Institute of Physics, said, "The Innovation Nation White Paper shows that the government has been listening to organisations at the vanguard of UK R&D. SMEs make up the largest proportion of businesses undertaking innovative R&D and it is these smaller businesses that are going to help the UK achieve the government's goals. While the initiatives are encouraging, it is crucial that the government follows-up on each of the ideas with concrete actions plans."
