What you can expect from us

Aims:

To help members make informed career choices.

Objectives:

  • To provide a high quality, efficient guidance service to all members.
  • To provide an efficient information service on all aspects of employment, further study and alternative options.
  • To enable members to clarify their skills, abilities, interests and values.
  • To enable members to understand the range of opportunities available.

While the service is open you may (as appropriate) consult, borrow or take away the literature; obtain expert help to track down other information; use the IT resources; reserve a place on workshops/seminars, book a one-to-one appointment to see the careers adviser, book for a mock interview. Your careers queries will be managed by a qualified careers adviser.

One-to-one appointments are useful if:

  • You are uncertain about your career path
  • You are returning to work
  • You are made redundant
  • You want to re-valuate your skills and position in the job market

You will be required to fill in and submit a personal history form two days prior to attending your appointment. This will give the careers adviser time to prepare for the session.

E-Guidance queries can be useful when requiring information such as:

  • Further study and funding
  • Work experience
  • Job market information
  • Assessment centre information
  • Specific occupational query
  • Application forms
  • CVs

You should receive a response to your e-query between 2 and 5 working days of submitting it.

If the E-guidance is unavailable due to maintenance work we will notify you by posting a note on the E-guidance page.

Mock Interviews- this is an ideal way of calming your nerves before an interview. You can use the mock interview session to think about how you will structure and answer your questions. You will be required to submit your application, person specification and job description form two days prior to the interview.
