2nd Annual Meeting on Biophotonics: Technology and Applications

29 November 2007 (half-day meeting)

The Institute of Physics, 76 Portland Place, London

Breaking the barriers between traditional academic disciplines can lead to truly ground-breaking scientific developments.  One area which has undoubtedly benefited from such cross-disciplinary interaction is biophotonics, where photonics technologies are developed specifically to address fundamental challenges in the life sciences.  Light presents a truly minimally invasive method for investigating biological media and new biophotonics technologies and applications are rapidly emerging.

Following the outstanding success of a similar meeting held at the Institute of Physics last year, this meeting invites submissions from the physics and life sciences communities involved in biophotonics, with emphasis on emerging technology and applications. Suggested topics of interest include cellular imaging using 3-D and 4-D microscopy, fluorescence lifetime imaging and Foerster resonance energy transfer.  Further examples include optical coherence tomography, harmonic generation microscopy, coherent anti-Raman Stokes imaging, and cell manipulation techniques involving optical tweezers.

This meeting is free to attend but please register your interest in attending by sending an email to Dr Gail McConnell at g.mcconnellATstrath.ac.uk or Professor Andy Augousti at augoustiATkingston.ac.uk.
